Job Description

Points is looking for a Payments Analyst to join our Risk and ePayments team for a permanent position.

We’re looking for a smart, detail oriented, enthusiastic person with a passion for problem solving, dashboard creation, and report building. As a Payments Analyst, you will be relied on to review, analyze, build / or enhance payment related reporting as well as research the global payment landscape. The successful candidate will be a quick learner with superior Excel skills, outstanding analytical skills, and an ability to identify process improvements in a fast paced environment.

You will be responsible for the following:

Reporting and Data Analysis

  • Using internal and external data to analyze the cost and performance of merchant accounts, identifying and reporting trends related to:

    • Currencies, card type, issuing bank, etc

    • Transaction cost analysis by country, partner, etc

    • Method of Payment usage analysis by country, partner, etc

    • Accept and decline rates by partner & region

  • Provide proactive quality financial analysis, insightful commentary and recommendations that allow to make informed business decisions on payments

  • Assist in the forecasting of transaction processing costs globally when required

Research on Payments Landscape

  • Regulatory

    • Understand domicility and localization rules / requirements and apply knowledge to make recommendations on improving payment metrics and Points’ payment strategy

    • Stay on top of and report on payment Rules and Regulations regarding the processing of electronic payments (PSD2 etc)

  • Payment methods

    • Research international payment methods applicable to the Travel & Loyalty sectors

    • Make recommendations on payment methods applicable to our partners

Administer / Manage merchant account process

  • Own the current workflow process related to opening merchant accounts from start to implementation, including:

    • Create and maintain process documentation for both staging and production merchant accounts

    • Ensuring appropriate documentation is completed

    • Set up in payment gateway and fraud tools Testing and review, including verifying correct mapping to bank accounts & fraud tools

  • Review current processes and work with various stakeholders to introduce automation / improvements where necessary

  • Analyze merchant account transaction volumes to assess usage and close down merchant accounts when needed


Qualifications
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, charting, data tables and macros

  • Strong analytical skills with experience working efficiently with large data sets

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, accounting, finance, economics, data science or other analytical disciplines

  • Knowledge of and experience in the payments industry is considered an asset

  • Strong communication with ability to communicate data and findings to management

  • Strong working knowledge of PowerPoint
